Nieuwe versie iFEA (Fingerprint Evidence Analyzer) is beschikbaar. iFEA is een mobiele applicatie die het mogelijk maakt om op de plaats delict snel vingerafdrukken te verwerken. Met deze applicatie is het mogelijk vingerafdrukken te fotograferen en ze vervolgens direct vanaf de plaats delict te versturen naar het onderzoeksinstituut waar automatisch onderzocht wordt of de vingerafdruk reeds voorkomt in de landelijke vingerafdruk-database HAVANK. De gebruiker krijgt automatische een reactie in de applicatie of er een hit gevonden is. In samenwerking met de politie is dit proces volledig geautomatiseerd.
Hierdoor is een enorme tijdswinst gerealiseerd en kan snel gereageerd worden als er sprake is van een identificatie. De nieuwe versie van iFEA heeft een volledig nieuwe opzet die met name van invloed is op de wijze waarop berichten verwerkt worden. All 25 regional units including the National force of the Dutch police started using the new version of TRIS. This month the last unit is converted to TRIS 4.
Before the conversion every unit used to have its own database. With the introduction of the National Police the police decided to make TRIS a nationwide application with just one single national database. A major advantage of this approach is that the exchange of data on offenses between police units is no longer a problem. All forensic experts from different units have access to the same information and database.
Een inbreker die in anderhalf jaar tijd maar liefst 215 inbraken pleegde en 62 pogingen deed in het Gentse, is ontmaskerd dankzij zijn oorafdruk. Een van de slachtoffers noemde de Slovaak zelfs – terecht – de ‘Cristiano Ronaldo van de inbrekers’.
De waslijst aan feiten waarvoor de 40-jarige Slovaak Achac T. gisteren terecht stond, is schier eindeloos. De man had blijkbaar een voorliefde voor appartementsgebouwen: hij brak in maar liefst 215 flats binnen, 62 keer moest hij zijn poging staken en wegvluchten. Dit alles presteerde hij in anderhalf jaar tijd. Omgerekend gaat het dus om bijna één inbraak of poging per dag. De werkwijze van de beroepsinbreker was telkens dezelfde. Hij parkeerde zijn wagen met uitzicht op de centrale inkomdeur, wachtte tot hij enkele mensen naar buiten zag komen en sloeg dan zijn slag. Hij brak de toegangsdeur open en ging aan de voordeur van alle appartementen luisteren wie wel of niet thuis was. De man drukte daarbij zijn oor blijkbaar zodanig hard tegen de deur dat hij in tientallen gevallen een duidelijk oorspoor achterliet. Dat is hem uiteindelijk fataal geworden. Dankzij dat spoor kon de politie hem linken aan tientallen inbraken.
“Het is een van de eerste grote zaken waarbij de oorafdruk zo’n cruciale rol heeft gespeeld. De oren van elke persoon zijn uniek en kunnen dus, net als de vingerafdrukken, gebruikt worden om iemand te identificeren”, zegt procureur Hans Van Landeghem van het parket van Oost-Vlaanderen, afdeling Gent. Hij goot het speurwerk van de federale politie in een dagvaarding van tientallen pagina’s en bracht Achac T., samen met zijn kompaan die een kleinere rol speelde, gisteren voor de rechtbank.
De grootste rechtszaal van het Gentse gerechtsgebouw was maar net groot genoeg om alle slachtoffers een plaatsje te kunnen geven. Weinigen verwachtten nog iets terug te zien van hun gestolen spullen, laat staan een schadevergoeding. De meesten wilden wel een glimp opvangen van de ‘Cristiano Ronaldo van het inbreken’, zoals één van de slachtoffers de beklaagde noemde.
“Ik was op een ochtend naar mijn werk vertrokken en had een auto zien staan, met daarin een man met een kap over zijn hoofd. Ik vond het al verdacht en inderdaad: toen mijn vriendin ‘s avonds thuis kwam, lag ons appartement overhoop. Laptop, fototoestel, iPod: alles weg. Net als een gouden ring die mijn moeder nog van haar moeder had gekregen en die ik aan mijn vriendin wilde geven”, zegt slachtoffer Jonathan Speeckaert (25) uit Oostakker. “De politie vroeg toen of we wilden dat ze DNA-onderzoek zou doen. Dat zou ons een paar honderd euro kosten, zeiden ze. Gelukkig vonden ze ook zo’n oorafdruk op onze voordeur. Ik hoop nu maar dat de rechter dat als bewijs aanvaardt.”
Eenzelfde verhaal bij de 80-jarige Lydie Dellaert uit Sint-Amandsberg. “Ik was hooguit twee uur niet thuis, maar al mijn gouden juwelen waren weg. Blijkbaar is hij bij alle buren op mijn verdieping aan de deur gaan luisteren, maar is hij alleen bij mij binnengebroken omdat hij hoorde dat ik niet thuis was. Ook op mijn deur hebben ze zo’n oorafdruk gevonden”, zegt de kranige vrouw.
In principe riskeert Achac T. maximum vijf jaar cel voor de ellenlange inbrakenreeks. Omdat hij bij één inbraak ook geweld gebruikte, verdubbelt die strafmaat echter naar tien jaar. Of de procureur die maximumstraf zal vragen, moet blijken op de zitting van 19 juni.

HOBBIT imaging solutions will attend the European Police Congress on the 24th and 25th of february which will be held in Berlin.
The European Police Congress is an annual congress that will take place in the Berling Congress centre in the beginning of each year. This Congress is an international information platform for police and policy makers from the security industry. The aim is to improve the dialogue between authorities and to allow participants to make new contacts with colleagues around the world .

Belgium – The Belgium prosecution authority has filed a six year sentence against Mohamed A.(34). He is accused of 21 burglaries, seven attempts and one violent robbery. The accused could be linked to the facts by earprints that were found on the front doors of the apartments. However, he denies most of the facts.
All burglaries took place in just three months, from late March to late June 2014. He targeted apartments in Antwerp where he manipulated the doorcylinder or forced the door. The loot consisted of mobile phones, laptops, iPads, jewelry, cash and clothes.
A resident of an apartment building caught Mohamed A. on June 13 in the staircase. The accused threatened him with a knife and made stabbing motions to escape the building. He was arrested on the 12th of July. The occupant immediately recognized him in the photograph.
Mohamed A. doesn’t deny this fact, but disputes the other accusations. However, the public prosecutor’s office finds these facts proved. Earprints that were found on the front doors are consistent with his ear prints that were recorded in a database after previous burglaries. According to the attorney earprints are as unique as fingerprints.
His lawyer claims that earprints alone are not sufficient to convict someone. Also they only show that he was present at the scene but not that he committed the burglary. Four victims claimed civil damages against his client and demand almost 13,000 euros in damages
